Scattering

We can tailor how your loved one’s ashes are scattered to your requests. Our Gardens of Remembrance offers a final resting place for your loved one.  

You can choose to be present at the time of scattering, with or without our memorial officer. Or, if you would prefer, our staff can scatter on your behalf. 

Options

Our crematoria offer: 

  • scattering of the ashes in the garden of remembrance with attendance
  • scattering of ashes without family, by our staff
  • ashes placed in a vault

Further options

Further options are available at Stoke Poges Memorial Gardens or local cemeteries, which include: 

  • cremated remains buried in family graves 
  • new cremated remains grave (interment) 
  • under lawn scattering
  • family plots for interment (available at Stoke Poges Memorial Gardens)

Frequently asked questions

The cremated remains are actioned following the written instructions of the applicant. This is usually, the executor or nearest surviving relative.

You can request to scatter the ashes with family or friends in attendance. You can also request our memorial officer to be in attendance.

Our memorial officer can:

  • scatter the ashes for you

  • read a short poem or verse during the scattering

Ashes can be scattered with the use of our brass scatter urn or the sale of a scatter tube.

Yes, a small fee is added for the scattering of ashes if the cremation does not take place at one of our crematoria. Call our office to make an appointment.

 

Ashes are scattered by our team after 21 days have passed from the cremation service. 

Unattended scattering is not witnessed by family or friends, but the location of the scattering can be requested. Please request this information before the 21 days from the service have passed. 

There is no need to make a hurried decision about the final resting place.

After 3 months have passed from the service, you will receive a letter asking if you have finalised a decision.

If you have not, tell us that you need more time. A fee will be charged to hold the ashes at the crematoria. Or they can be collected and stored elsewhere.

Should we not receive a reply to our letter, we will legally scatter the cremated remains within our grounds. You will be given 2 weeks’ written notice before this takes place.
