Bierton Crematorium is proud to participate in the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management’s (ICCM) Metal Recycling Scheme. This scheme offers families the opportunity to give consent for the recycling of metals resulting from cremation, including those used in orthopaedic implants such as hip and knee replacements, as well as in the construction of coffins.
Since its inception, the scheme has raised over £19 million for charities. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the bereaved families who consent to the recycling of these metals.
This year, our participation in the scheme raised an incredible £12,500. Bierton Crematorium is pleased to donate £6,250 to The Thomas Ball Children’s Cancer Fund.
About The Thomas Ball Children’s Cancer Fund
The Thomas Ball Children’s Cancer Fund was founded in 1999 by Thomas Ball, who was then aged 9 and undergoing treatment for stage four neuroblastoma, diagnosed 20 months earlier. The main objective of TBCCF is to relieve sickness and distress among children suffering from cancer and their families. This support is provided through medical equipment, holidays, special gifts, and research.

“We are thrilled to receive a substantial donation of £6,250 from the Institute of Cemetery and Crematoria Management Metal recycling scheme. This money will make a huge difference to a small charity like ours that we run from our home with the help of volunteers. Families who are affected by childhood cancer are referred to us from hospitals for respite breaks in our holiday home on the Hampshire coast and for family days out. Sadly, some of the children we support do not survive their cancer diagnosis however we do everything possible to help the family with bereavement support that would include respite breaks and funding memorials. We also hold an event every year for bereaved parents to come and celebrate the lives of their children taken too soon. Knowing that this scheme is supporting seriously ill children and families suffering bereavement could bring a little comfort to those who have lost loved ones and make a positive difference to families at the most difficult time in their lives. We send our heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in this worthwhile scheme”. Elaine Ball – Chairperson from The Thomas Ball Children’s Cancer Fund
