Ash dieback

Footpath along woodland green space in the memorial garden

August 2023

Since 2021, we have been aware of the significant impact of ash dieback disease. This disease affects many of the trees in our Garden of Remembrance at Chilterns Crematorium.

We will be continuing ongoing work with the infected trees on our grounds to help ensure the safety of our visitors and reduce the impact on our garden.

The necessary steps to remove and secure the trees and our grounds have been and will continue with the Forestry Commission.

We have re-planted new suitable replacement trees on our grounds with:

  • hornbeam
  • Rowan
  • Lime
  • Wild Cherry
  • Field maple
  • Norway maple
  • yew

We understand that many families use our trees as markers for scattering the ashes. We would like to reassure everyone that we take the utmost care with all remaining stumps left in place.
